Now if you’ve looked into gun safes, you probably know that they range anywhere from a small fire safe, all the way up to something larger or even up to an entire vault in your home. We’re out here in the bunker and we’re just going to talk about a few of the differences between gun safes.
The main thing I want to touch on today is why having a safe is important. The first reason is very obvious. You spend a lot of your hard earned money on firearms—your pistols, your rifles, your other valuables like silver, some gold or family heirlooms—you lock them up to prevent theft of your important items and things that are valulable to you. Another obvious reason are that a lot of safes are fire safe. So if there had been an unfortunate accident of your home or shop burning, your items, if you have the right safe, will be saved. This is really important, especially to me, my family, I’ve always grown up hunting and shooting. So, a lot of these weapons a lot of these firearms and pistols and things like that are handed down from generation to generation. I have a German Luger that my great grandpa brought back from World War II, so something like that is just irreplaceable.
Another reason for a safe is if you’re like myself, I’ve got small children running around the house. It really just gives you peace of mind to have them put away safely. I would suggest though, for your personal safety, you’re still going to want something readily accessible. They make a lot of really innovative new products, like ones with just a quick finger combination on the end, and you can have your firearm immediately accessible, but it’s still locked and safe from your children having some sort of accident. Those are just a few of the things you always want to be conscientious of where your firearms are located and safety can’t be stressed enough—you don’t want them to be so accessible that an unfortunate incident can happen with your children.
Another thing you might notice when you’re shopping for a safe, there are a few different options in terms of how it’s opened. I’d say a more popular option these days have a digital combination. Another option you may are ones that have a biometric scan where it’s a fingerprint scanner. And then of course you have your standard traditional combination safe. These are really nice because you don’t have to worry about batteries. They are mechanical fully through and through, so they’re always going to work unless something is badly damaged, and a safecracker can actually get into that should you forget the combination or maybe a relative passes away and nobody knows how to get into that safe. So these are just a couple of things that you might look at and consider whenever you’re picking out your gun safe.
