CHAMPAIGN, IL — Champaign Police responded to a report of a home invasion involving gunfire on November 10, 2024, at approximately 4:09 a.m. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Harrington Drive, where officers found two injured men upon arrival.
One individual, a homeowner, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm during a struggle with the intruder. He was transported to a local hospital and remains in stable condition. The other man, identified as an unknown intruder, was mortally wounded and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the intruder entered the home, prompting a physical altercation with the resident. During the confrontation, the homeowner discharged a firearm, striking the intruder fatally and sustaining an injury in the process.
Champaign Police, with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department, are continuing their investigation. Officers are processing evidence and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage.
