This has got to be one of the strangest stories I’ve run across in a while. But after reading the details, it sounds like the concealed carrier had a good reason to draw his gun on a man holding a “magic wand.”
A 29-year-old Minnesota man had been issued a trespassing notice by a Hyatt Place hotel in November 2021. Last Friday, he decided to disregard the notice and walked into the hotel around midnight. He reached into a bowl of unused room keys and got into a confrontation with one of the hotel employees.
As the employee was escorting the man out of the hotel, he pulled out a “magic wand” and pointed it at and threatened the employee. The employee thought it looked like a knife and drew his concealed carry gun. I guess this was when the suspect realized his magic wand wouldn’t stand up to the handgun he had pointed at him. He wound up leaving the hotel not before kicking over a trash can and pointing the wand at the employee.
One witness said that the wand was about 16 inches long and had a metal tip that resembled a knife.
I think it is safe to say that the suspect has some mental issues. You don’t hear about people using magic wands to commit crimes every day. And to me, it sounds like this all unfolded very quickly. As the employee is trying to get this man who is causing a disturbance out of the hotel, he pulls something out that looks like a knife. I’m sure as soon as his mind registered “knife,” he drew his gun. At least he didn’t wind up shooting the ma. While he may have been justified, the employee doesn’t have to live with the fact that he took someone’s life over a magic wand.
