This tragic story out of Jacksonville, FL could have been prevented if a man cleaning his guns followed the 4 Rules of Firearm Safety.
According to Action News Jax, a man was cleaning his gun when it “accidentally discharged.” The round then traveled 40 to 50 yards hitting his neighbor in the head while she was standing in the front room of her house. The woman’s young child was the only one home and had to call for emergency services.
The family has set up a GoFundMe as they begin to plan for funeral arraignments.
As I said, this is a tragic story and one that could have been completely prevented. It is stories like this that remind us not to be complacent or lazy. You might be tired and not wanting to clean your gun but make sure you ensure it is empty and follow all four rules of firearm safety (see above.)
