IBERIA PARISH, LA — On October 31, 2024, a Halloween night home invasion in Iberia Parish took a violent turn when a resident defended himself against an intruder armed with a knife. The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to two separate home invasions and stabbings around 6:00 p.m. in the 4900 and 5000 blocks of Dolphin Street. The incidents resulted in multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound to the intruder, Casey Meaux, who was armed and allegedly responsible for attacking the occupants of both residences.
According to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find Meaux, 47, of Lafayette, Louisiana, at the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest. Investigators determined that Meaux had been shot by the resident of the second home during an attempt to defend against his attack. It appears that Meaux may have attacked an individual in each home before being stopped by the homeowner’s defensive use of a firearm.
Emergency responders transported both the victims and Meaux to area hospitals. Meaux, once treated, was subsequently placed under arrest and now faces multiple serious charges, including two counts of home invasion and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses. Currently, bond for Meaux has not been set.
