Even if one has a totally “clear line of sight” to someone on the other side of an obstacle like a door, and one fires a “warning shot” through the door intending to miss and had aimed several feet to the side of the person, the bullet can be deflected by the door, a nail or screw, the door frame, etc…deflected enough to still strike that person… even kill him or her.
One cannot reliably predict the path of a bullet after it has hit a substantial obstruction like an arbitrary door.
