Two Pearland, TX residents were attacked about 10:30 PM on a Saturday earlier this month by a home invader wielding a hammer. The suspect broke into the back of the home. The homeowner was able to get to his gun and shoot the suspect multiple times. All three are in the hospital.
Since all three are in the hospital, we can assume the two victims were injured during the hammer attack, probably before one of them was able to get to a gun.
It is important to realize that just because you may have a gun in your home, that does not mean that you are ready to defend yourself. Where and how do you have your gun stored? How fast can you get to it? Would you have to run by a main doorway to get to it? Is your gun on another level than where you usually hang out in your home? Is one gun in your home enough? Do you carry a gun on you at home?
Take some time to think about how someone might break into your home and how you could best defend yourself against an attack.
It appears that these two victims were physically attacked by the suspect with the hammer before one of them was able to get away to get the gun. Ideally, you want to be able to get to the gun before someone is able to attack you.
