Only nine days into the year, Chicago is on self-defense shooting number two, and these crooks are not the smartest. The first armed confrontation was over some shoes, then a few days later, this mastermind ran off with a cell phone and lunch.
The Chicago Police Department responded to shots fired and flying glass in a busy downtown tourist area Sunday afternoon. A CPD spokesperson said someone entered a store and pulled a gun out in an attempted robbery. Luckily, the employee was carrying a firearm, and when they took shots at each other, the thug took off for the nearest subway for a quick trip south. The gunman’s big haul, a single cell phone available on Amazon for $24.99, but hey, no one got wounded.
Authorities do not know who the gunman was, but police said they would confirm the victim had a valid concealed carry permit. Illinois requires both a CCL and FOID card to carry a firearm.
CWB Chicago reported, “There was an exchange of gunfire between the victim and the offender,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
Robber and clerk exchanged gunfire during River North store hold-up, police say
About 45 minutes later, a similar-looking robber hit a 7-Eleven and then walked around the corner to his third location. He robbed a Wing Stop for some food to go with the Slurpee he stole moments before.
Once again, a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with bad intentions. After the record number of self-defense shootings in Chicago last year, it might be interesting to keep track of this year’s score. Is anybody interested in betting on the over/under?
