A Baton Rouge shop owner was the victim of a mid-day robbery. The suspect robbed the store and then shot and killed the owner. As the suspect was leaving the store, a man who witnessed the incident shot the suspect who also died at the scene. He then fled the scene but later turned himself into the police where he was questioned and then released as reported by WBRZ.com.
It’s not clear whether the man who shot the suspect was in or out of the store at the time he fired as the suspect fled. The difference would be shooting at someone who’s fleeing the scene and perhaps is not a direct threat or encountering the suspect more or less face to face outside the store who very well could have been a deadly threat considering he just shot someone.
Either way, fleeing the scene after shooting the suspect was not the best course of action but at least he turned himself in fairly quickly. Hopefully, he picked up a lawyer on his way to the police. Since he was released without charges it could be assumed that there was strong evidence for the justification of his actions though charges could always be brought later.
This is unfortunately yet another reminder that compliance with an armed robber does not guarantee your safety.
