A teenager was home alone and hid in her closet calling her parents after someone had broken into their home. Records from the Orlando Police Department also show calls from the neighborhood about a man in his 30-40’s acting strangely.
As officers were arriving at the home, the homeowner shot 53-year-old David Havens through the front entrance. The officers found Havens with a single gunshot wound and transported him to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
What can be said here most importantly for parents is to make sure they establish a well-constructed home defense plan not just for everyone as a whole but additionally for when their children are home alone. What room is designated the safe room and do your children know to go there and lock themselves if trouble arises?
