We carry a gun so that we have a tool to defend ourselves when our life is threatened. We don’t carry guns to scare off a young man riding his skateboard in a parking lot. And that’s exactly what happens in this short clip that is making its rounds on the internet.
We don’t know the age of the skateboarder, so we’ll just call him a young man. He is out having fun filming some skateboard tricks with his friend. Were they trespassing? Maybe. But that is beside the point. A man in a Tesla drives up and confronts the group. As he gets out of his car, the skateboarder does one last trick. Then the man draws a pistol from his pocket and brandishes it as he tells them to “get out of here.”
The clip is short, but it seems that the skateboarder cooperates and tells him, “we will.”
Drawing a gun in this situation is entirely uncalled for. This is a perfect example of an irresponsible gun owner. Carrying a gun comes with great responsibility. We see these types of incidents a lot involving road rage.
I can understand being upset and wanting to run the skaters off but using a gun to intimidate them is not the way to go. This guy is lucky there wasn’t someone there with a concealed carry gun, as I’d be included to say they would have been justified in using their gun in self-defense as soon as this man drew his gun.
