A Columbia, Missouri resident was greeted by a home invader about 8:45 AM on a recent Friday morning. The 20-year-old male suspect illegally entered the home with a weapon and was shot by the victim in the home. Police found the suspect near the residence suffering from life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The report did not mention the type of weapon and the investigation is continuing.
We normally don’t think of armed invasions happening at that time of the day but it’s good to keep in mind that there is no safe time of day. Crime can and does happen at all hours. We don’t get to decide when we will be attacked. That privilege is reserved by the criminals involved so we must be prepared to respond when we may least expect it.
How do you do that without walking around paranoid all the time? Have a plan in place that you’ve rehearsed enough that you can execute it the moment a threat is perceived.
