Last Thursday, a 92-year-old man is dead after his son was forced to shoot him in defense of his father’s caretaker.
Reports state that the man’s father got into an argument with his caretaker and grabbed a “long knife,” and began threatening her. The son warned his father multiple times and stated that he had a gun. When the father refused and advanced toward the caretaker, his son shot him twice, once in the leg and once in the stomach.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This is such a horrible story. No one wants to use their gun in self-defense, let alone against their own father. But it sounds like the father had a history of mental illness.
Ten years ago, the father was charged with murdering a man he got into an argument with over a payment for agricultural spraying. He was deemed incompetent to stand trial but had all of his firearms removed.
