I live in Ohio and have a concealed carry permit. If I am a passenger in a vehicle that is pulled over, must I state that I have a CCW and I’m carrying a weapon?
Yes, In Ohio, by law you have to promptly inform any law enforcement officer who approaches the vehicle that you have been issued a concealed handgun license and that you possess or have a loaded handgun in the vehicle whether you are the driver or an occupant. I live in Massachusetts and have a LTC Class A I’m moving to North Carolina am I going to have a problem with getting a North Carolina LTC.
Having a Massachusetts LTC doesn’t have any effect on your obtaining a North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit once you move there. You will need to apply for a new permit 30 days after establishing residency. You can find this and more information at our North Carolina Concealed Carry info page.
I live in Michigan and I have a CPL. Some one told me that I was leagally bound to inform a resident that I may visit, that before going on their property, or into their house, I have a leagal obligation to inform them that I carry. I have looked through the Michigan firearms law and can’t seem to find this. I know it may be the responsible thing to do, but is it the LAW?
We can not find anywhere in the Michigan law that states that you have a legal obligation to inform the owner of a residence that you are carrying a firearm. This person might have been confused about the duty to inform regarding law enforcement. In the state of Michigan, if you are pulled over by law enforcement, you must immediately disclose that you are carrying a firearm. My son is active duty Air Force Police. He wants to get a concealed carry permit. We live in Oklahoma but he will be stationed in New Mexico. Should he get permit in OK or New Mexico?
You have two options here and just to be sure we placed a call to the NMDPS Concealed Handgun Carry Unit who also verified that this information is correct. New Mexico will recognize the Oklahoma resident permit while he is stationed in New Mexico for the military. While New Mexico does not issue Non-Resident Concealed Handgun Licenses, they do issue Concealed Handgun Licenses to Military and their dependents that are stationed in New Mexico so he could also apply for a New Mexico.
For years I have been trying to sign folks up for the NRA. I wish they would put a PDF or some such thing for downloading and printing out applications. I had an old application and had been giving them out but the price was wrong. We gave out three memberships last year, one this year with old applications, and to my sorrow, I think they may be invalid. Let me know what you think.

I am left-handed. I am looking for a 9mm for concealed carry that is left-hand friendly for racking and locking the slide, and operating the safety. I’d like it to be as small as possible (not exceeding 6″ in length) but still allowing for a full-finger grip and having as near a 4″ barrel as I can get. Any suggestions?
You will be hard-pressed to find a pistol with ambidextrous slide lock and safety controls. I think your best bet would be to forgo a pistol with a manual safety and find a pistol that has an ambidextrous slide lock such as the new Glock Gen 5 models. We published an article, Top 10 CCW 10 Firearms for Ambidextrous Shooters, a few years ago so you should check that list as well although there most likely have been some new pistols that fit your criteria since then. Another route would be to get some training that includes learning how to manipulate the firearm offhand and onehanded.
When I carry, does the type of ammo matter? For example, does the law state if you need to carry jacket bullet rounds or can you carry cast bullet rounds that you reload yourself also for jacket bullet rounds or do you have to carry factory load ammo?
We know of no states that require you to carry a specific type of ammo or prohibit carrying certain types of ammo except for New Jersey. Be sure to check with own state’s laws, but as far as we know, New Jersey is that has a ban on Hollow Points.
